It opened in February 2020 in the former Holy Angels Convent, a 130-year old heritage building. Nominating Mi’kmaw artists

Eltuek Arts Centre Elder Advisory Committee is seeking nominations for Mi’kmaw artists whose work and life should be recognized through story, song, and/or images in the Kisituek Gallery. The gallery is located on the second floor of Eltuek Arts Centre .

The selection process will work to identify a final group of seven Mi’kmaw artists that will be celebrated through a designed display of their story, work, and achievements.

The Kisituek Gallery will offer an opportunity for all visitors to Eltuek Arts Centre to learn more about some of the many Mi’kmaw artists who have contributed significantly to various artistic disciplines locally, regionally, provincially, nationally, and internationally, and to the life of their communities.

The first round of nominations will only be open to Mi’kmaw artists from the Unama’ki (Cape Breton) region. Friends or family may apply on behalf of Mi’kmaw artists who are no longer living. This nomination process begins with the application that is linked below.

Artists or the families/friends/loved ones of artists are asked to submit a complete application, including supporting documents, for the artist they would like to nominate for inclusion in the Gallery. Artists or the families/friends/loved ones of artists are asked to complete this online application to the best of their ability by answering all of the questions in as much detail as possible and by providing supporting documents as/where requested. The Elders Advisory Committee will review the applications and will be able to gain an understanding of the life and work of the nominated artist based on the information provided in the application.

Deadline for Applications Closed: Midnight on Friday, September 25, 2020
